Are We There
Yet? How Long to Grill a Filet?
With
the big diet news recently released that says the high protein
diet is the most effective way of losing weight and keeping it
off, more and more people are increasing their intake of meat.
And if you are going to eat more meat, what better way to enjoy
it than by eating a superior cut of meat prepared properly? Of
course, after you pay that much for a filet, you want to
know how long to grill a
filet so as not to dry it out or ruin it.
The first thing you need
to take into consideration is the thickness and how you like
your steak prepared. No matter if you like it rare, well or
somewhere in between, remember that the meat continues to cook
after you pull it off the grill, so unless you like it really
well done, pull it off sooner
rather than
later. How long to grill a
filet also depends on how thick the steak is.
Patience is the key to
getting your steak to the proper temperature. First you should
allow your steak to get to room temperature before you put it
on the grill. Then you sear it on both sides, about 2-3 minutes
per side. Do not turn your steak with one of those meat forks,
the puncture marks allow the meat's natural juices to run
out.
After searing there is
still much to be done, but you are learning how long to grill a
filet to perfection, not just how to grill a filet. After your
filet is seared on both sides, turn it back on side one, but
turn it a quarter turn or so to get those distinctive grill
marks. Cook for 4-5 minutes unless your steak is really thick
or you like it really well done. Turn it over and do the same
again.
At this point, your filet
should be done. Take it off the heat and let it set for a few
minutes while you make notes about how long to grill a filet.
